Frequently asked questions

Where are you located?
We are located at 3 Frankmoore Avenue, Next to Keith Spry Swimming Pool, Johnsonville.

When are you open?
We are open on Thursdays at 7.30-8.30pm, and Saturdays at 9:30am to 11:30 am except for school holidays.

We are closed on public holidays including Easter, the Saturday before Queen's birthday and Labour Day.

Is there a waiting list?

Who can join?
Membership is open to all people living in the Wellington area.

How do I join?
It is easy to join. Just come into the library, fill out a membership form and pay the subscription fee (we accept cheque or cash only). You will be able to borrow toys straight away.

How much are the subscription fees?
The library operates on al annual membership basis. Members who join part way through the year pay on a proportional basis as detailed in the terms and fees.

What are your methods of payment?
We accept cash or cheque only. No eftpos or credit card. Renewing members can pay by direct credit to our account (email us for the account number). If paying by direct credit, please include your initial & surname as reference and email when payment is made.

Can I opt-out from the duties once I've joined?
Yes you can. We understand that for some members it is not feasible to take part in library duty or fundraising activities. For an additional fee members can choose to opt out of one or both of these activities.  For $20 per duty, paid a minimum of one term in advance, you can opt out of a library duty.

What would I have to do as a duty member?
You must arrive for duty 15 minutes before the library opens.  Duties involve assisting the committee member and librarian to set up the library before the session starts, help run the library during the session and pack up at the end. Once all the toys are packed away, your duty is completed.

What if I can't make my duty day?
If you are unable to help on the day you are rostered on, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another member. If either you or your replacement does not turn up, then a fine of $25 will apply.

Can I bring my kids when I'm on duty?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your kids along on your duty day.

What age group do you have toys for?
We have toys suitable for children from 0 months to 7 years of age.

What kind of toys do you have?
We have a wide range of toys including exersaucers, infant toys, ride-ons, bikes & scooters, railways and train sets, construction and pretend toys, dolls, dress-ups, musical instruments, puzzles, games and educational toys.

Is there a charge for each toy I borrow?
No, there is no charge for borrowing toys or puzzles.

How many toys can I borrow?
You can borrow a maximum of three toys, three puzzles and three games (a total of nine items) at any one time.

How long can I borrow the toys?
You can borrow the toys for 2 weeks. If your borrowing period covers school holidays (and if your membership is current), you can keep toys over the school holidays.

What is the fine for overdue toys?
You will be fined $1 per toy per week for any overdue toys.

What happens if I return a toy with missing piece(s)?
If you return a toy with a piece(s) missing, you will be fined $8 per missing piece. The fine will be refunded if the lost piece is returned or replaced by you. If the toy is returned damaged i.e. toy is unusable, you will be charged the full replacement cost.

What happens if I break a toy?
Damaged pieces, instructions or containers will be fined $8.00. If the toy is returned damaged i.e. toy is unusable, you will be charged the full replacement cost.
